This is our first in a series of roundups for some of our favorite restaurants that are offering takeout during the Coronavirus outbreak. We will be updating these articles on a semi-regular basis. This article is up to date as of May 16 2020.
We at ihome Real Estate love to have a good meal as often as possible. Cooking is always an option, but sometimes you just want to go out and enjoy what your neighborhood has to offer. With the measures put in place to stop the spread of the Novel Coronavirus enjoying food at restaurants has been much harder to do, but some places have started offering takeout so you can have a taste of their great food at home. Here are some of our favorites in Nakameguro:
Pizzeria e trattoria da ISA
Frequently vying for the top of the Tabelog charts for best pizza in Japan, this Neapolitan-style pizzeria has been winning over the hearts of people living and visiting Nakameguro for years. All their pizzas are available for takeout.
This recent addition to the Nakameguro sushi scene is headed by Teruo Okada, a sushi chef originally from Okayama in Western Japan. True to his roots, much of the fish and vegetables served here come from his home prefecture. Normally you could expect to pay upwards of ¥10,000 to eat at his counter, but they are offering ¥5,000 and ¥10,000 takeaway boxes (price depends on kind of fish) with some of their sushi favorites including toro, mackerel, and various rolls. Also be sure to try their tendon (tempura over rice) for ¥4,000.
This quiet and refined yakitori restaurant up the hill towards Daikanyama is normally known as great place for celebrity-spotting, but recently has become the go-to place to get a yakitori bento box to enjoy at home. They are offering their yakitori bento at ¥2,200 and they will throw in a free tote for customers who buy 3 or more!
The perfect meal for post-hangover, the grilled cheese sandwich has not gotten much love in Japan — until now. This Sendagaya outfit has made its way over to Nakameguro and brought all the greasy yet crispy goodness with it. Start with the standard ¥450 cheese melt or spring for their ¥580 bacon egg melt for a little more oomph. Be sure to order their chili dip too. It’s an extra ¥200 you won’t regret spending.
Constantly contesting with City Bakery as being Nakameguro’s best bread shop, Trasparente beats City Bakery out in its baguettes. With a hard crust and plenty of flavor, these baguettes will win over even the biggest French snobs. Their sage butter and honey-soaked mini-baguettes are a must-try. Also look out for their danishes and pain au chocolat. Try out their locations in Gakugeidaigaku and Toritsudaigaku Stations as well.
We can’t mention Trasparente without talking about its rival, The City Bakery. This bakery takes a completely-different path and sets itself as a NY-style bakery, with such items as pretzel croissants, bakers muffins, and Jewish bakery staples like babkas and rugelach. Try their spicy lamb burger as well. They have many other locations in Tokyo, like Akasaka, Hiro, and Ginza.
We’re going to say it — this is by far the best and most authentic Tex-Mex place in all of Tokyo, or maybe even all of Japan. Sat in between Nakameugro and Yutenji stations, Junkadelic’s atmosphere is great and the portions are American-sized, so be careful not to order too much! Definitely try their nachos, as well as their tacos (with choice of meats), fajitas, and massive burritos.
This little bistro is close to our hearts — it’s a 2-minute walk to our Nakameguro office! The owner-chef Rica cooks up French-inspired Japanese dishes like squid ink quiche, roast ham mousse, and her “salad boxes.” Her dishes change daily, so be sure to drop in and see what’s on the menu. Also her homemade bread and biscotti are a must-try.
One of the most popular places to get catering for movie and TV shoots, this cafe on Yamate-dori Avenue has retained popularity since its inception because of the vast variety of fillings they offer. They stock classics such as salmon and sour plum but also have such fillings as galbi (Korean-style short rib), soft-boiled egg, and fried chicken with mayonnaise.
Fancy a falafel but don’t want to leg it to Ebisu? Another of our lunch favorites (it’s 2 minutes from our office!), this 100% vegan falafel joint can serve you up those golden balls in a pita, a salad, or in a cup with a skewer. Don’t miss their vegan ice cream, with toppings such as raspberry syrup, dark chocolate chip, and salted pistachio crumble.
This normally prix fixe-only high-end Italian restaurant right on Meguro River is offering some of their most celebrated dishes for takeout — look out for their roasted caprese salad, their antipasto salad, and their Ozaki beef sirloin steak.
We hope you like our roundup of takeout places in Nakameguro. As we are in uncertain times, some of these places may change their opening hours or might close all together. We will be updating this regularly to reflect that. Be safe, wear your mask when you go out, and support your local businesses!
